I know the ones. They've employed them at Bulldogs NRL games and other Showground events.

Went for a bike ride around there last week and it's certainly looking impressive.
I wonder if they'll be doing this during the Easter Show starting next week?

Re: GWS to play at revamped showgrounds
I'm sure they will. Even if GWS sell out every game at the Showground, they won't draw as many spectators to the arena as the Grand Parades of the Royal Easter Show draw.
Thanks for the photo. The temp seats only cover the outer half of that track so there will still be some on dislay during AFL games.

Re: GWS to play at revamped showgrounds
Those temp seats have gone and the whole northern half of the ground has been re-built. I've been watching construction progress regularly as I've been working nearby. Those grassy hills that were there before the temp seating are now completely concreted and seated concourses, while on the right of that photo, a new two level stand has been built.
Out of picture to the left is where the new 3 level corporate stand has been built.
I'm guessing that the whole northern half of the stadium will be out of action for the show as it is primarily still a construction site.
The new replay screen is huge.
St James.

Re: GWS to play at revamped showgrounds
I should have been more specific. When I was referring to temp seats, I meant the ones that go in front of the stands, not the ones that were put on top of the hill when the Bulldogs moved in. I never liked the latter.

No worries. Can't say I've ever seen them used at the showground. Do you mean over the dirt track?Jeffles wrote:I should have been more specific. Do you know when they were used?

Doesnt look as big as Metricon, yet apparently has a similar capacity.

Re: GWS to play at revamped showgrounds
um, yeah. Capacity is supposed to have gone from 13k to 25k but it looks like the increase is only about 5k...
Is that right?
edit: according to this they've only added 7k to increase capacity up to 20k.

25k won't come about until they wrap the upper deck of the new NE stand around the northern end. Is that funded as part of the $70m already allocated?

The ground record is 21,895.

If anything, capacity has decreased because seating has increased. In fact, when you look behind the scoreboard goals, the seating area is nowhere near as big as it was when it was built.

A couple of things I don't like. The shape of the new roof hasn't kept the "curved baseball cap" appearance. Flat is too bland in that setting. Moreover, the orange seats net to the red don't quite blend in well.

Re: GWS to play at revamped showgrounds
Alright I've nerded out and counted up the seats from the above link - the capacity is approx 22,900 (approx because my arithmetic is rusty). Reckon tonight's crowd is about 50% of capacity so about 11k is my estimate with the crowd split about 50:50 for Dons and Joints fans.Simmo79 wrote:um, yeah. It looks a good ground and perfect for the Giants. Once they fix the surface though - looked a shocker on Sat night!
I'm a bit surprised there wasn't another 5k or so for the first game at the ground.
