My Brother is a huge drag racing fan and is very excited about this. For years Sydney drag racing fans were robbed of quality interntaional events. Its reliance on the Eastern Creek Dragway (the main straight) was a farce. It meant less racing (since the Creek was worried about the effects of drag racing on the track proper when it would host "real" events). Hence Sydney missed out on hosting important meets.
The WSID has come about as a reault of lobbying by many drag racing fans. I understand a track was promised at the time of Eastern Creek being built but the successive governments never delivered They are very well organised via the Auto Racing Media and should be commended for their success. It took ages to convince Mr Carr (I hope he loses the next election) but it is good to see the track there.
Not a bad looking stadium either.
