The team in Blue appears to be West Adelaide Hellas. Can't account for the team in red.

Note the distance between the goals and the fence. Anything beyond this distance is absolutely unacceptable, and if you disagree it's because you've never watched football in a proper stadium.

Agreed. It's the internationally recognised distance for acceptable separation of crowd from opposition keeper so that said keeper can still hear personal insults from said crowd.yob wrote:Note the distance between the goals and the fence. Rugby grounds that host football matches are denying opposition keepers their proper quota of abuse!

Wembley Stadium must be absolutely unacceptable.

guess what one of the major complaints about Wembley is (after the awful pitch and shitty food and drink prices of course)?cam wrote:Wembley Stadium must be absolutely unacceptable.

I never fully understood the concept of Wembley and the overall length.
It certainly had nothing to do with Rugby League or even Rugby Union in goal areas.
Have a look at the distance even here for a RU match
SFS logic I guess...

I think it's because in the initial design phases they were still talking about having a platform upon which they could put an athletics track. Would be interesting to see the dimensions of a field set at the level of the 20th or so row back. Could be very wrong on that though.

There is a report with drawings of the mods required to install an athletics track at Wembley. I will post the link here when I find it.

I think it also has to do with the many concerts that are played at Wembley. Maybe they use the stage at the very end of the pitch so that they don't damage any of the soccer pitch in the middle.
Classic thread going from Hindmarsh to talking about Wembley...LOL James_ would be having a fit

Based on Dan's photo? Yes. It's purpose built for football... why isn't it built that way?cam wrote:Wembley Stadium must be absolutely unacceptable.

Wembley looks to be about 150m long, fence to fence. That's SCG/SFS pre-renovations territory. It's narrower than the SCG obviously but it still isn't within coo-ee of 'good'. Compare it to even Soccer City in Jo-Burg:

I'd prefer bigger video screens at the venue, The Caketins are perfecto...

According to the Wembley website the grassed infield is 10,096 sq m which is 529 sq m less than FIFA's recommended 10,625 sq m. To that of course you have to add the sealed area around the pitch. From memory when I checked it once before the width was 84m fence to fence at its widest.
Soccer City looks fabulous and it is great to see the moats gone.
Hindmarsh is shorter than FIFA's recommended 125m.

While Soccer City and Wembley are up to be compared, what interior design do you like better for a 90-95K flagship stadia?
Soccer City does look great.
I'm a fan of there being no concourse underneath the bottom tier, like in Joburg and Etihad, compared to Wembley and the MCG.
