Re: Australian FIFA World Cup Stadia
If we don't get this world cup, then we are in big trouble, because we all know China is around the corner as being ready to host and there were of course articles flying around about don't vote for an Asian bid because China wants 2026.
So if we make some assumptions, like the current system of awarding hosts continues then it could play out like this if we don't win next week:
2010: South Africa
2014: Brazil
2018: Europe
2022: USA
2026: China (We could go again, but I doubt we would beat out a China bid)
2030: Europe
2034: South America most likely (Argentina perhaps or maybe a Mexico)
2038: Back to Australia having a chance.
Or this could perhaps play out:
Same as above until
2022: Qatar (or another Asian Nation)
2026: USA probably
2030: Europe
2034: China
2038: Africa or South America (Still probably Argentina or Mexico the main possibilities)
2042: Europe
2046: Australia a chance again
The stakes are high if we don't win. Hopefully we have pulled enough over the judges eyes, promised plenty of money to build football fields in nowhere Africa to get the job done. If Spain/Portugal win 2018 though, we are in big trouble if the so called pact between them and Qatar is true.
Then again maybe we will go back to Oceania in spirit so we can just bid for whatever World Cup we feel like.

I keep on fearing Qatar is going to bribe their way to hosting the World Cup.

FIFA will be the laughing stock of world sport if Qatar gets the Cup. No way they can host it in the heat.hot_dogma wrote:I keep on fearing Qatar is going to bribe their way to hosting the World Cup.

If FIFA give the 22 Cup to Qatar, that world Cup will be theworst Cup ever! If it goes to the USA, I'll be disappointed, but at least that position from FIFA is defensible, huge stadia, 1st world infrastructure, continue growing the game etc. Doha/Qatar, joke bid.timmers wrote:FIFA will be the laughing stock of world sport if Qatar gets the Cup. I can't imagine premium sponsor Budweiser would be happy with the Cup being held in a dry state either.

Yeah I can't see Qatar getting it to be honest, unless there's corruption involved. It's really between us and the USA. Obviously with us never holding it and our success in hosting big sporting events is a plus, but it will be tough against the USA who have so many amazing stadiums and such massive population. Although the fact they held it not too long ago in '94 will hopefully put us just in front.

f**k this sh*t is painful.
I'm sure all the bid presentations are painful, but this is rediculous.
Kangaroos riding surfboards? Thorpey the lifeguard. Cathy Freeman!
About the only tolerable bit so far is Frank Lowy.

Carbon Neutral and Solar Power were not phrases I was expecting to hear in relation to the Qatar bid.

I haven't seen the video but Cheesie's description sums up a lot of what people have said to me in the office today.

Just saw it. OMG. Thank Christ for business plans, bid books and back scratching becasue I'd hate to think the video was the persuasive tool.
BTW, when the Muslim woman, Asian bloke and Aboriginal got close ups during the soccer game at Uluru, did anyone else think "GWS launch?"

Re: Australian FIFA World Cup Stadia
Hopefully the final presenations don't have much of an impact. I'm sure most people would know who they're voting for anyway (or what bribes they've received). Seriously I reckon the whole bid process is a load of sh*t. How many million have we spent on the bid? Why should countries have to spend so much $$$ just to bid for the event - surely that money could be better spent. Who gets the World Cup shouldn't be about how good their video production skills are or what celebrities they can round up who know nothing about the sport.
I'm still confident. But anything could happen tonight. Go Aussie!

I see England fans did their World Cup bid plenty of good last night at the Carling Cup. Disgraceful scenes.
