The Newcastle Entertainment Centre is one of Australia's most flexible multi-purpose venues. Officially opened in June 1992, the facility offers 5,000 square metres of clear span floor space and is capable of catering for capacities from 2,000 to 6,500 for entertainment style events.
The Centre has hosted a variety of events including rock and popular concerts, circuses, ice shows, school spectaculars, basketball, tennis, boxing, gymnastics, indoor motocross, exhibitions, conventions and functions. The stadium has been home of Newcastle's two former National Basketball League teams including more recently, the Hunter Pirates, who exited the league following the 2005/06 season.
