The Melbourne BallPark, also known as the State Baseball Softball Centre, is located in Altona, which is based just outside of Melbourne on the way to Geelong. The centre was opened in 1990 and plays host to Baseball and Softball, but also stages events such as motocross. It has a main grandstand which seats around 2,400 with approximately 1/3 of them under cover. There are hills down each of the base lines, and a total capacity of just over 5,000. The centre also has TV standard lighting. The one disadvantage of this world-class baseball venue is it's location. Although it is easy to find, on the very busy Geelong freeway, it is quite a fair distance out of Melbourne.
