| Waikato Stadium is located in the heart of Hamilton City, North Island, New Zealand. The Stadium itself has been a redevelopment project from the old Rugby Park site, which had a colourful history of some great rugby matches throughout its existence. The new Stadium is the home of Waikato Rugby and the Chiefs Super 12 team.
The Stadium is a rectangular shape, ideal for field sports and catering to a capacity of 27,500 people including 20,000 seats, 10,000 of which are under cover. The turf surface of the venue is unique in the fact that it is the first full loksand, sand carpet field available in New Zealand and Australia. This allows for strength, consistency and presentation of which the Stadium can be proud.
The Stadium has two grandstands on either side of the ground, seating at one end, and standing room at the other. Complete redevelopment of Waikato Stadium was completed in 2002.
