Sydney International Speedway
The Sydney International Speedway at Eastern Creek is a facility located within the Western Sydney Parklands’ Precinct 5, adjacent to the Sydney Motorsport Park and Sydney Dragway, which opened in March 2022. Also referred to as the Sydney International Speedway, the venue replaced the now-closed Valvoline Raceway (Parramatta Speedway) located at Clyde, which was acquired to house a train stabling and maintenance facility for the Sydney Metro West project.
The Eastern Creek speedway features grandstand seating for 4750 spectators with a total capacity of 7,000, corporate facilities, workshops and garages as well as trackside pits and spectator facilities.
The new venue was initially due for completion in September 2021, but was delayed until March 2022 due to Covid-19. Since its opening, the motorsport facility has suffered various issues including poor drainage of its clay-based racetrack, electricity supply and lighting issues, to name a few, which has forced the cancellation of speedway events. The initial $40 million budget has blown out to about $100 million. It was announced in September 2023 that the entire 2023/24 speedway season has been cancelled due to ongoing issues. Racing returned to the venue in March 2024 on a newly reprofiled track.
