Sydney Entertainment Centre

The Sydney Entertainment Centre (later known as the Qantas Credit Union Arena) was a multi-purpose indoor arena located in the heart of Sydney. The venue hosted its final sporting event in December 2015 and was demolished in 2016. The Entertainment Centre was originally built by the NSW Government in 1983 to replace the old Sydney Stadium.

The venue hosted many sports events, including Basketball, Netball, Tennis, Boxing and Wrestling and it primarily hosted concerts and other entertainment events. It was situated on the fringe of Chinatown, adjacent to Darling Harbour and a short walk to the CBD. It had a capacity of 10,517 for basketball and the Sydney Kings called the venue home for the majority of its life, it was often referred to as the "Kingdome".

The Sydney Entertainment Centre was originally due to be demolished in late 2013 however a last-minute naming rights agreement with Qantas Credit Union extended the life of the venue for another two years. The last event was held at the venue on 19th December 2015 with Elton John playing live. Demolition of the venue commenced in early January 2016 and took around three months. The replacement facility is the new Sydney International Convention Centre – located nearby and expected to open in December 2016. The new venue will featuring three theatres, of 9000, 2500 and 1000 capacity, however it will be unable to host sporting events such as Basketball and Netball. A new inner-city indoor sports arena is expected to the announced in the near future.
