Five kilometres from the Sydney CBD, Royal Randwick is considered to be racing headquarters in Sydney. With a history dating back to 1833, the course has a reputation for being a good all-weather track and holds major Australian races during the Autumn and Spring Racing Carnivals including the richest race in the world - The Everest. Granted the right to be known as Royal Randwick by Queen Elizabeth in 1992, the course is a wide, sweeping surface of spirit and thundering history attended by charming structures and polished modern grandstands. A new world-class six-level grandstand and surrounding facilities completed in 2013 have increased Royal Randwick's capacity to provide flexible spaces that can be used for both racing and non-race day events.
