Queen Elizabeth Oval
Queen Elizabeth Oval is situated in Bendigo and hosts Australian football and cricket. The ground features a historic grandstand, with plenty of standing room around the playing field and some spectator shelter, with a total capacity of around 10,000. Originally known as Upper Oval, the ground hosted touring cricket teams as early as 1897 and World Series Cricket exhibition matches in 1977 and 1979. More recently, the ground has hosted pre-season AFL matches and AFLW games. It is the home ground of Bendigo Football League clubs Sandhurst and South Bendigo. It also hosts finals matches for the league and was the home of former VFL team Bendigo Gold. The ground was previously a large rectangle in shape with deep pockets, but has since been reconfigured to an oval shape and in 2011, the venue was upgraded with new terracing, lighting, scoreboard and an improved playing surface.
