Middle Park was the former home ground of the South Melbourne Soccer Club (Hellas), since its establishment back in 1959. The ground played host to over 1,000 memorable matches, including over 450 National Soccer League encounters. South Melbourne's last home game at Middle Park was on Sunday, 23 October 1994 where it recorded a fairy-tale 4-1 victory over arch-rivals, Heidelberg United.
The ground included one main grandstand which stretched the whole wing, the rest of the ground was surrounded by terraces, with a capacity of around 18,000.
The ground was bulldozed to make way for the Albert Park Grand Prix Track which hosts the Australian F1 Grand Prix. The ground used to be located where the pit lane now runs. South Melbourne Soccer Club now plays their home games at Lakeside Stadium, also located at Albert Park (then known as Bob Jane Stadium).
