Old Sydney Showground

Closed/Former Venue

The old Sydney Showground is situated next to the Sydney Cricket Ground and Sydney Football Stadium. It played host to many sporting events and cultural events such as the Royal Easter Show. Many Soccer internationals were played at the ground as was the World Series Cricket in the mid 1970's. The Sydney Royal Easter Show is held at the new Sydney Showground at Homebush.

Motor Racing was a big part of the Sydney Showground with many events held at the venue over the years. The record crowd at the venue is believed to be around 50,000. In the late 90's, the Sydney Showground was no longer needed, it was an old, tired venue, and due to all the new facilities out at Homebush Bay, most of the venue was bulldozed. It now forms part of Sydney's Fox Studios, with the main grandstand retained and used within the new facility.
