Perth Stadium
The proposed 60,000-capacity Perth Stadium at Subiaco evolved over a number of years with an extensive feasibility study undertaken. The initial design (above) was essentially rejected around 2008, while an updated design (below) was included in Australia's failed bid in 2010 for the 2018/2022 FIFA World Cup's. The stadium was to be built adjacent to the existing Subiaco Oval, before demolishing the existing facilities.
The plans were eventually rejected and the existing Subiaco Oval has now been demolished, with the new Optus Stadium at Burswood now operational.
Located at Subiaco - approximately three kilometres west of the Perth city centre. This location ensures that the stadium is surrounded by parklands and open space, making entry and exit easy for major events.
The proposed transport plan for Perth Stadium builds on the existing plans for Subiaco precinct. The upgrading of West Leederville railway station and the building of pedestrian bridges from the railway station provide opportunities to better link the stadium precinct and train station. The improvements to the station, which is located within 500 metres of the stadium, will ensure improved capacity and operating efficiencies.
