|QBE Stadium (NZ) - Austadiums|
QBE Stadium, formerly North Harbour Stadium, is a 25,000 capacity (19,000 seated) multi-purpose facility at the heart of the North Harbour region for the whole community to enjoy. The Stadium is the centrepiece of the 23 hectare North Shore Domain that also includes a large Oval field and four sporting fields dedicated to community use.
In early 1990, a handful of visionary people assembled to discuss the concept of a multi-purpose sports, recreation, cultural and entertainment facility for the North Harbour region. Located at Albany and opening in March 1997 the $41 million project became a reality, thanks to the support of the hundreds who contributed financially. The venue includes a main grandstand with seating for 12,000 and corporate facilities while a single tier of seating is located opposite and grass hills at both ends.
The venue has played host to All Black test matches and trial games, Kiwi Rugby League Internationals, All White World Cup qualifying matches, International Gridiron, Soccer’s Chatham Cup final, Super Rugby and NPC Rugby fixtures and the FIFA Under 17 World Football Championship. QBE became naming rights holder of North Harbour Stadium in January 2014 for an initial period of five years.
