Whitten Oval

The Whitten Oval, formally known as the Western Oval, is located Footscray in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne. It is no longer used as an official AFL venue but remains the training and administration base of the Western Bulldogs and hosts the Footscray Bulldogs VFL home matches. As well as being the home of the Doggies, the Whitten Oval was also the home of the Fitzroy Football Club for a number of years. In total, the ground hosted 880 AFL/VFL matches including two finals.

During its AFL days, the Whitten Oval held around 25,000 but has since been redeveloped with capacity now estimated at around 12,000. New lights suitable for night matches were installed in mid-2016. The ground is officially known as the Victoria University Whitten Oval due to a naming-rights agreement.
