|St George Stadium - Austadiums|
St George Stadium, also known as Barton Park, has a capacity of around 15,000 including 2,500 seats in a grandstand which has since been closed to the public. The venue is home to the St.George Soccer Club who play in the New South Wales Premier League.
St.George Stadium was set to undergo a re-development and be transformed into a 20,000 all-seat venue including 12,000 seats under cover. This was to be done to allow NRL club St.George Illawarra to play their Sydney games at the stadium, however the club decided to instead upgrade and return to Jubilee Stadium.
There were also preliminary discussions with Football Federation Australia to revisit the concept of converting St George Stadium into a boutique 15,000-seat venue for Sydney's A-League club and as a training venue for the national team, the site of an academy and an administrative headquarters for the FFA, however this also never eventuated.
The ground is simple in layout. There is a good sized grandstand on the western side, however this has been closed for the past 10 years due to it being unsafe. The rest of the ground is surrounded by grass hills. One drawback for the ground is its location. The ground is in the middle of parkland just west of Sydney airport and public transport links are poor. There are talks to redevelop the facility in the future and return it to its past glory.
