MyState Bank Arena
MyState Bank Arena, traditionally known as the Derwent Entertainment Centre, is located on the banks of the River Derwent at Glenorchy, near Hobart. The venue recently completed a major redevelopment ahead of the Tasmania JackJumpers joining the NBL in late 2021.
Opened in 1989, the venue is situated adjacent to the Elwick Racecourse and was the home of former NBL side Tassie Devils from its opening until the team's exit from the league in 1996. It will welcome back NBL action from the 2021-22 season with new club Tasmania JackJumpers to be based at the upgraded venue.
MyState Bank Arena can seat up to 4,800 spectators for basketball and as many as 8,800 for concerts. The venue has two tiers of seating around three sides of the court, with the lower section being retractable. There is also a temporary grandstand on the stage side of the court to ensure fans surround the action.
The $66 million redevelopment has transformed the Derwent Entertainment Centre into a world-class sports and entertainment facility, with a revamped court and exterior, 1600 new premium seats and changeroom facilities. Future developments will include an integrated hotel and retail precinct. A new name was revealed in June 2021, with the venue now known as MyState Bank Arena following a three-year naming rights deal. It hosted its first event on November 14, 2021 with the NBL pre-season blitz competition.
