The NRL has officially announced the relocation of the Grand Final from the SCG to ANZ Stadium, with a capacity of 40,000 permitted for the season-decider.

The Olympic stadium was initially meant to be in the midst of a major redevelopment, before the NSW government abandoned plans for the $810 million project. While the shift back to its traditional base seemed inevitable, it has only been made official today, as tickets go on sale.

The relocation to the 82,500-capacity ANZ Stadium, where the NRL Grand Final has been staged since its opening in 1999, will allow a crowd of up to 40,000 to attend, with the NSW government recently announcing crowds at sports events can double. Under current restrictions, only 24,000 would have been able to attend the game at the SCG.

The Grand Final will be played on Sunday 25 October, commencing at 7:15pm, in what will be a big weekend for Australian sport, with the AFL Grand Final held the previous evening at the Gabba. It’ll be the first time the AFL season-decider has been played outside of Victoria and under lights.

NRL Grand Final tickets have gone on sale to members today, while remaining tickets will go on sale to the general public tomorrow – see below for on-sale dates. Tickets can be purchased via the Austadiums Tickets Hub.

  • Wednesday 30th September 12pm – Ticketed members
  • Wednesday 30th September 4pm – Non-ticketed members
  • Thursday 1st October 9am – NRL Account holders/waitlist

NRL Chief Executive Andrew Abdo said the game was excited to have even more fans at the live Grand Final day at ANZ Stadium.

“ANZ Stadium is the biggest venue in NSW and that means more of our fans will be able to experience Grand Final Day live,’’ he said.

Under Public Health Orders, ANZ Stadium has developed a COVID-19 Safety Plan to ensure the venue maintains a safe environment for workers and customers. The NRL will work closely with the venue to implement these plans.

The 2020 NRL Finals Series kicks-off Friday evening in Penrith, with games also to be played in Canberra, Brisbane and at ANZ Stadium during week one, with tickets selling fast for all four matches.

All available tickets have been sold to the Raiders clash with the Sharks at GIO Stadium and the Panthers showdown with the Roosters in Penrith. Tickets have also been selling fast for Melbourne v Parramatta on Saturday at Suncorp Stadium and Souths v Newcastle at ANZ Stadium on Sunday.
