Construction of the new Sydney Football Stadium continues at Moore Park, with solid progress made on the foundations and works above the ground set to get underway.

With the demolition of the old stadium and 30,000 tonnes of earthworks complete, the first concrete slab was poured back in early August, forming the slab for the new structure.

50 percent of the piling for the stadium’s foundations have also been completed, while in-ground services are expected to be done by October, as construction moves into “stage three” which will see work from the basement to concourse levels undertaken.

From here, the new world-class stadium will begin to rise from the ground as it moves towards a 2022-opening.

Earthworks and pilings are expected to continue at the venue until late 2020, with three piling rigs currently on site.

The structure is due to be completed in 2021, followed by the completion of the building and public domain, including installation of the roof, façade and internal fit-out ahead of its opening in 2022.

There has also been a design refinement made, in line with the approved development application, with the stadium’s main entry from Driver Avenue seeing a reduction in the size and shape of its brick walls, as well as a change to the material being used for the walls to bring the design in-line with existing brickworks along Driver Avenue.

“We’re at an extremely exciting period in our new stadium’s timeline as above ground work commences,” said Sydney FC Chief Executive Officer Danny Townsend.

“This is when we’ll really see our new home take shape, and it’s pleasing to see that everything is on course and we expect to have the exterior structure completed by 2021, with the full fit out, roof and façade completed in 2022.

“The new Sydney Football Stadium will be a modern, world-class venue and one I’m very much looking forward to seeing Sydney FC play at.”

The A-League club, which has been playing its home games at suburban venues around Sydney, will be a key tenant of the new stadium, along with NRL club Sydney Roosters who signed a 25-year deal to continue playing at the Moore Park precinct, and the NSW Waratahs.
