Which Stadium for Perth Glory?

Chris Egan • Friday 23rd February 2007

Perth Glory have made it clear with the new Sage consortium that it means business, but the stadium for season 3 of the A-League remains far from settled, with Subiaco and the WACA putting themselves in the ring to become Perth Glory's home ground.

It is thought the WAFC have done this for the strategic decision on the proposed 60,000 seat stadium.

Sage explained that they had received detailed and attractive bids from Perth's two major sporting venues.

"We have been provided with two very attractive bids from both Subiaco and the WACA".

Matt Carroll stated that they would accept an A-League team playing on a cricket wicket.

"We have played games before at the MCG, the WACA would have to show us that it could get the pitch to an acceptable standard".

Sage commented that running the Glory at Members Equity Stadium was still an option but commented that it was very expensive to play games there.

"As the FFA have found out, it is very expensive to play at Members Equity Stadium...At the WACA we would be using the WACA Members area, which would increase our revenue".

The concerted push by the rectangular codes for a 30-35,000-seat stadium that Austadiums.com revealed would not be in jeopardy, by the Glory moving to the WACA or Subiaco Oval according to Matt Carroll.

"The Force do not play here at the moment. We are in discussions with the State Government along with the ARU and NRL to get a 30-35,000-seat stadium, somewhere, not necessarily at Members Equity".
