Force not to blame for MES Delay - Baldwin

Chris Egan • Wednesday 8th February 2006

The delay in the redevelopment of Members Equity Stadium was because of previous difficulties with Allia Holdings and was not due to the Force asking for an increase in capacity and funding, according to the Chairman of WA Rugby League Geoff Baldwin.

Baldwin stated that difficulties with Allia Holdings who previously were the parent body of Perth Glory caused major problems that resulted in the continuing delay of the redevelopment of the venue. "Nick Tana admitted that there was a conflict of interest between Allia Holdings and Perth Glory"

The problems were so bad, that the WARL at one stage were in discussion with the WACA for the NRL Premiership game between Cronulla and New Zealand. "At one stage I spoke with Tony (Dodemaide) about playing the game at the WACA"

Despite this, Baldwin stated Allia Holdings had improved relationships with WARL now as they had addressed the concerns that had caused problems in the past year. These included the separation of the Perth Glory club from the management of Members Equity Stadium.
