WACA given new curator

The Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) has appointed Cameron Sutherland to take over from Richard Winter as the Perth ground's new head curator.

Sutherland, who has been responsible for the preparation of Perth's Richardson Park for the past nine years, will take on his new role in September after Winter departed in June to take up a key post at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

"I'm delighted to have been given the opportunity to prepare one of the most famous turf surfaces in world cricket," Sutherland said.

"I'm excited by the challenge of ensuring the WACA Ground maintains its reputation as a sporting arena of world class standards."

WACA schief executive Tony Dodemaide said Sutherland's appointment followed world-wide interest in the prestigious role.

"Perth is renowned for it's unique pace and bounce and we're confident that Cameron will lead his quality team in producing pitches that reflect the ground's heritage and high standards."

Meanwhile, the WACA has expressed its condolences to the family of former WACA president Bernie Prindiville following his passing on Saturday night.

Prindiville was a dedicated cricketing official in Western Australia and the northern end of the ground has been named the Prindiville Stand in his honour.

"Bernie Prindiville was a man who always had the true interests of cricket at heart," WACA president Dennis Lillee said.

"He was a tireless worker for the sport here in Western Australia and without his efforts the people of Western Australia wouldn't be able to enjoy the world class cricket and facilities they can at the WACA every summer.

"On behalf of the WACA I would like to send my deepest sympathy to the Prindiville family at this time of great loss."
