Ticketek has launched an App Clip to allow sports fans with an iPhone to buy tickets without needing to download the Ticketek app.

App Clips are a new technology released with iOS14 last year which are mini versions of apps accessible via QR codes or by tapping an NFC tag.

Fans can scan or tap outside a Ticketek stadium and purchase event tickets using Apple Pay, without downloading Ticketek's full app.

Digital tickets are then sent directly to the customer’s iPhone and can be stored in their Apple Wallet, allowing direct access into the venue.

Ticketek held a successful trial earlier this month at the Sydney Cricket Ground and officially launched the feature at the Sydney Swans v Collingwood match at the SCG on the weekend.

The feature is set to be rolled out across Ticketek’s Australian venues followed by a global launch throughout its venue network.

TEG's managing director of ticketing Cameron Hoy said the feature would help create "frictionless" event experiences and steer customers away from traditional box offices.

“We are thrilled to bring another world-first to Ticketek fans in the form of our fastest, most convenient path to purchase yet,” said Hoy.

“The Ticketek App Clip will create a frictionless event day experience for fans, giving them access to mobile tickets in as few as two taps.”

SCG Chief Executive Kerrie Mather said “we are delighted to be working with Ticketek as our ticketing and technology partner to bring world leading solutions to our customers. The Ticketek App Clip will make it even easier to see the biggest and best events live at the SCG.”
