$8 million boost for Campbelltown Stadium

A Rudd Labor Government will deliver $8 million towards the upgrade of Campbelltown Sports Stadium.

Shadow Minister for Sport and Recreation, Senator Kate Lundy, Labor candidate for Macarthur Nick Bleasdale and Member for Werriwa Chris Hayes announced the commitment today.

Ms Lundy said the commitment came after strong representations from Mr Bleasdale and Mr Hayes.

"Nick and Chris put a strong case - they were tireless in their efforts. They're rightly

proud of the Wests Tigers, the Macarthur Rams, the Western Suburbs District Junior Rugby League and the other teams that play at the stadium and want their Campbelltown home to reflect the pride the community has in them," Ms Lundy said.

The upgrade will include:

• Additional seating for 3685 people;
• Full refurbishment of player facilities;
• Lift access in the western grandstand allowing people with a disability to access all seating levels;
• Upgrade of the western grandstand's catering and toilet facilities; and
• An electronic portable video screen.

Mr Bleasdale welcomed the news saying it was a great win for the local community.

"Our community deserves the best sporting infrastructure possible," Mr Bleasdale said.

"Campbelltown Stadium is an iconic venue for our community. It caters for many sports including rugby league, soccer and rugby union and Federal Labor's commitment goes a long way to helping transform the stadium and its adjoining facilities into one of the premier sporting precincts in western Sydney.

"The Howard Government has flatly refused to make a commitment to the stadium and their inaction is just another example of how much they have lost touch with the needs of our community.

"We want a stadium we can be proud of and that the whole community can enjoy.

"Only a Rudd Labor Government will deliver that with this $8 million investment in the Stadium's future. I am proud to be part of the Labor team that recognises the importance of investing in local community infrastructure."

Mr Hayes said he and Mr Bleasdale had worked closely with the community and Campbelltown City Council to secure this commitment.

"Once again Labor is leading the way in south west Sydney with another investment in the future of the region," Mr Hayes said.

"Our region has a proud sporting heritage producing many champions and this investment will mean that our next generation of sporting stars will have a better stadium to play at and better facilities where they watch their sporting heroes play", Mr Hayes said.
