New screen for AAMI Stadium

A second super screen will be built at AAMI Stadium as part of a planned $36 million upgrade over the next five years.

The State Government will pay for the $1.5 million screen and also contribute $4 million for improved security measures at the stadium, including closed circuit television surveillance.

Premier Mike Rann yesterday said the Government was supporting the upgrade because it was the only stadium in South Australia with the capacity to host major international sporting events and big concerts.

"If we are serious about bidding to stage the soccer World Cup in Australia then AAMI Stadium needs to be part of that," he said.

Mr Rann said police would be conducting a full security audit of the venue within the next two weeks to ensure new security plans were up to internationally accepted standards.

Currently about one-third of patrons at matches are not able to see the northern end screen.

"This means everyone in the stadium who goes to see the Crows or Port Adelaide will be able to watch replays on a super screen," Mr Rann said.
