Blundstone Arena to host fifth Ashes Test
Hobart has won the race to host the fifth Ashes Test match, with Blundstone Arena named as the venue for the final game of the Australia-England series. Tickets went on sale Monday Dec 20 - see below for details.
After weeks of speculation, Cricket Australia made the announcement on Saturday morning, confirming that Tasmania would host the day-night match from January 14-18.
The match was relocated from Perth’s Optus Stadium due to Western Australia’s strict border controls.
Blundstone Arena was scheduled to host a Test match between Australia and Afghanistan in November before the game was postponed. The MCG was considered the other frontrunner, with the SCG and Manuka Oval also in the running.
It’ll be the second day-night Test of the 2021/22 Ashes Series, with the second Test at Adelaide Oval also played under lights.
Covid restrictions will see Blundstone Arena's capacity reduced from around 18,000 in cricket-mode to 14,000, with its hill to be hardest hit, reduced from 4000 to just 700.
Demand is high for the game with tickets to the first three days expected to be snapped up quickly, for what is considered one of the biggest sporting events ever to be played in Tasmania.
The ground, traditionally known as Bellerive Oval, was scheduled to host a BBL game between the Hurricanes and Renegades on January 17, but that’ll need to be relocated or rescheduled as it now falls on the fourth day of the Test.

Cricket Australia has announced tickets to the fifth Vodafone Ashes Test will go on sale next Monday 20th December:
11am - Cricket Tasmania Members
2pm - ACF & Partner Presale
4pm - General Public
Tickets must be pre-purchased and are available online through Blundstone Arena's official ticketing agency - Ticketek.
Tickets will range from $30 on the hill at entry level through to $100 in a reserve at the top of the spectrum
