Australia still has only 7 capital cities (6 of which could cope...sorry Darwin), which means that FIFA will have to allow a double up in a few areas otherwise we would be building too many white elephants.

That or do a joint venture with NZ as they will have 3 good rectangular pitch stadiums from the RUWC.....which means sorry Perth (which would be a pitty as they have at least the Glory and Force, to benifit from any legacylike a new Perry Lakes for example.) and maybe Adelaide (who, lets face it only have Adelaide united to benifit.)

ANZUS, Cricket World Cups, Australian and New Zealand Safety Standards...Australia and New Zealand in unison is very different to Korea and Japan in unison.

I think the political barrier of Australia now officially being part of Asia and New Zealand being part of Oceania still is the biggest hurdle. Wikipedia still gives the impression that joint bidding is not allowed, so I think Australia has to go it on its own if it wishes to win

You should know better.

There's also the chance that Oceania might be admitted as a region of the AFC in the next 10+ years. If so it removes that 'different confederations' barrier for a joint bid

First day of government and an independent Liz Constable with huge influence with Colin Barnett is already saying that they may not spend a billion dollars on the new major multi purpose stadium and they should scrap the project I agree with where they want to spend it, but heck cut some of those billions you committed during that f***ing expensive as all hell election caimpaign.

As I said, be very very wary of suggesting Perth will have any venue ready in time. Incompetence and stadia hatred continues within all levels of government...

Maybe ANZ in unison is different, but trying to organise a sporting event with them? look at the 2003 RWC cluster, because I guarantee you if FIFA do, a joint event will be no dice.

I think the only way that Perth will ever get a new stadium is when Subiaco is no longer acceptable to the AFL...Whenever that may eventuate...

I agree. I was about to reply and say that I have never seen anything stating what mattwinter said, but then I realised I've never seen anything, from a reliable source , stating what "everyone else knows" (which is "only once city can have two stadiums").

I remember there was an interpretation going around, that the actual statement was that "there must be at 9 or more stadiums and 8 or more cities" which people misinterpreted as "only one city can have two stadiums", which isn't what the statement says.

Anyone have a reliable source?
