Unbelievable 59-59 in the 5th set when bad light stopped play. Fifth set longer than any match in history. 98 aces to 95 aces. And that is a first round match.

How many foot faults would you reckon in the 5th set?

Cairns will host Australia's bid to return to the world group of the Davis Cup in its qualifying tie against Belgium in September.

Tennis Australia on Friday announced the far north Queensland city had won the right to hold the play-off tie from September 17-19.

Lleyton Hewitt is expected to lead Australia's charge on the hardcourts of the $5.5 million Cairns Regional Tennis Centre, yet to be opened since a $2 million upgrade from the Queensland Government.

Australia whitewashed Japan 5-0 in its last zonal qualifying tie on clay at Brisbane's Pat Rafter Arena in May.

Cairns

Probably shows how little interest Australia is showing in Tennis ATM.

No idea on the foot faults either Yob, but im going to say 1.

With footy finals, you'd struggle to drum up interest in a city that had an AFL or NRL team. Good choice IMO.

On that criteria, what about Adelaide? Or is the SNAFL too big a challenge as well?

So there must be at least one fairly significant show court at this Cairns Regional Tennis Centre? Can't find any info about it though so must be pretty small - does anyone have any idea what capacity is? Last time when the Davis Cup was in Townsville it was at the Entertainment Centre - I guess the Cairns Convention Centre must not be capable of accomodating tennis, cause that would obviously be far better facilities then whatever is on offer at this new tennis centre.

They just refurbished the centre. Google maps only shows it's old appearance, a bunch of tennis courts with a pavilion.

They'll probably use temporary seatig like they've done in Mildura.

This was a good one as well. Seems as if Tennis Australia made a very good choice going to Cairns - eg humidity+heat.

Samantha Stosur!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The impressive thing about today is that she didn't choke. She's had a few wobbles during past big games, including against Williams. When Serena went feral at the umpire, Sam dug deep. It was really good to see.

Yeah awesome stuff, should be up to 7th in the world as well. And it wouldn't be like a Williams sister to lose her cool.....
