It's the problem you always like having - players fighting for their position. WA has no less than 25 batters lining up to have a crack.

WA parliament passes brothel bill
Wednesday Apr 2 13:13 AEDT
The West Australian parliament has passed a controversial bill which will decriminalise brothels and give prostitutes basic working rights including superannuation and workers compensation.

The bill, passed Tuesday night, will see the regulation of brothels and escort agencies in WA, where prostitution is legal but running a brothel is not. Nor is living off the earnings of prostitution.

WA's Liberal opposition opposed the legislation but it passed with the support of independent MP Shelley Archer in exchange for the promise of drug, alcohol and sex education programs for Aboriginal children in the northern Kimberley region.

Opposition police spokesman Rob Johnson has renewed earlier criticism of the proposed laws, saying it would lead to increased activity by sex workers in suburban areas.

"What you will see now is a massive escalation of what I would call "mini brothels" operating in residential streets," he told ABC radio.

"You could see one opening up next door to you in a very short space of time."

So prostitution is legal, but you can't live off the money you make from it?

NZ man sentenced after claiming to have been raped by a wombat
March 28, 2008 - 7:55AM

A New Zealand man who claimed to have been left speaking Australian after being raped by a wombat has been sentenced to 75 hours community service.

Arthur Ross Cradock, a 48-year-old orchard worker, admitted in the Nelson District Court yesterday to the charge of using a phone for a fictitious purpose, after calling police with the message, "I've been raped by a wombat".

Police prosecutor Sergeant Chris Stringer told the court that on the afternoon of February 11 Cradock called the police communications centre, threatening to "smash the filth" if they arrived at his home that night.

When asked if he had an emergency, he replied "yes", Mr Stringer said.

On a second subsequent call to the communications centre, Cradock told police he was being raped by a wombat at his Motueka address, and sought their immediate help.

He called police again soon after, and gave his full name, saying he wanted to withdraw the complaint.

"I'll retract the rape complaint from the wombat, because he's pulled out," Cradock told the operator at the communications centre, who had no idea what he was talking about, Mr Stringer said.

"Apart from speaking Australian now, I'm pretty all right you know, I didn't hurt my bum at all," Cradock then told the operator.

Mr Stringer said alcohol had played a big part in Cradock's life. However, defence lawyer Michael Vesty said alcohol was not a problem that day.

Judge Richard Russell said he was not quite sure what motivated Cradock to make those statements to the police.

In sentencing, he warned Cradock not to do it again.

SA is extending the father-son rule for their own good.

Matt Bachl wrote:Father, daughter incest pair 'lived under same roof'
Monday Apr 7 10:00 AEST
By Matt Bachl

An ex-wife of the South Australian man who had a baby with his daughter has rubbished claims the pair had almost no contact for 30 years.

Dorothy Deaves told ninemsn John and Jenny Deaves, who have now had two babies together, lived under the same roof when Jenny was a 15-year-old girl.

John and Jenny claimed in an interview broadcast on 60 Minutes that they began a sexual relationship after Jenny tracked down the father she had never known.

But Jenny attended Dorothy and her father John's wedding reception in 1984 and stayed with them for a week, Ms Deaves claims.

The 69-year-old said Jenny stayed with them four times during their marriage, which collapsed after the father-daughter duo took a trip together to Dubbo in 2000.

Dorothy said both father and daughter broke up with their marriage partners after the Dubbo visit.

"I'm devastated — he has hurt me terribly," she said.

"It was hard to face for a long time.

"It's one of those things everyone's so upset about."

John and Jenny Deaves were found guilty last month of a single charge of performing an act of incest with the other.

Court documents show that the first child the pair conceived in 2001 died soon after being born from a congenital disease. They now have an apparently healthy nine-month-old baby girl.

The sentencing remarks show the pair were charged with two counts of incest in 2007 after police were tipped off about their relationship following an investigation by the Department for Families and Communities South Australia.

The pair were initially bailed on the condition that Mr Deaves have no contact with Ms Deaves or their child — a condition the judge said drove Mr Deaves to attempt suicide twice.

Judge Millsteed described the incestuous relationship as "unacceptable" but not one where a father “violated his daughter and used his position of authority to take advantage of her powerlessness".

The judge said he took into account the consensual nature of the relationship and the fact it didn't involve exploitation when recording a conviction.

The pair were placed on a three-year $500 good behaviour bond, with the condition they don't have a sexual relationship.

Mr Deaves told 60 Minutes sex with his daughter was "fantastic" even though he initially thought it was wrong.

"Emotions take over, as people no doubt realise, there are times during your life where emotions do rule the heart, it rules the head," he said.

"I knew it was illegal, of course I knew it was illegal but you know, so what."

The two reunited 30 years after Mr Deaves — who was once jailed for armed robbery — separated from his daughter's mother.

Ms Deaves said soon after meeting her father again, she began to see him as a man first and a father second.

"I was looking at him, sort of going, oh, he's not too bad," she said.

"Like you might look at a man across the bar at a nightclub."

South Australian police refused to comment on reports the pair were being monitored.

There was an article a couple of years ago in the Good Weekend about people who were genetically related but separated at birth (sons and mothers, brothers and sisters) who hooked up. Apparently, the attraction can be very real even when they know full well it's totally fukn gross.

There's also a real opposite effect where people who are not genetically-related but grew up together are repelled by the thought of sexual relations with each other (adopted siblings, people who grew up in hippy communes and sh*t like that).

South Australia up by 10 goals at this stage.

Edit - HELLO, Wayne Carey Rule? They had their first kid in Queensland then moved to South Australia. Carbon copy of Wayne Carey playing for South Australia except he's from Wagga and didn't f**k his daughter.

WA, Mandurah no less, slots one home

Buswell admits sniffing staffer's seat

WEST Australian Opposition leader Troy Buswell is refusing to resign despite breaking down and admitting to sniffing the chair of a female Liberal Party staffer.

Mr Buswell confirmed details of the woman's account of a 2005 incident at a press conference today in Mandurah, south of Perth.

The woman, who does not want to be named, said Mr Buswell started sniffing the chair she had been sitting on at his Parliament House office in December 2005.

The incident took place in front of other staff members.

She said he had done it to get a laugh.

“I was shocked and outraged and I told him,” the woman told The West Australian newspaper.

Mr Buswell said he had repeatedly refused to deny the allegations because he wanted to protect the woman involved.

But he broke down after he was asked about the effect of the reports on his wife and children.

Tears in his eyes, Mr Buswell said he needed a short break, turned his back and then asked his press secretary to bring him a glass of water.

Mr Buswell said his wife was aware of the allegations before they were published on Sunday.

He said it had been a difficult time for him “on a personal level”.

“These are difficult issues for me to deal with and they are very difficult issues for my family to deal with,” he said.

“It's hard dealing with these matters and having to face up to your responsibilities behaviourally, publicly, and it's harder to do it privately.”

Mr Buswell has previously admitted to snapping a Labor staffer's bra as a drunken party trick and has been accused by retiring Liberal MP Katie Hodson-Thomas of making sexist remarks to her.

Deputy Liberal leader Kim Hames was today standing by Mr Buswell, describing him as a “rough diamond with a robust sense of humour”.

Dr Hames said his leader needed to change his behaviour, but also acknowledged there was no one to replace him.

This occurred in West Perth. Although bag the sh*t out of Mandurah...

I know somebody who is in close contact with Kim Hames and its a 'professional' based friendship with Buswell. Doesn't want the leadership, because of the increased stress involved.

WA Liberal Party continue to be a complete utter disaster of a party.
These are difficult issues for me to deal with and they are very difficult issues for my family to deal with,” he said.

“It's hard dealing with these matters and having to face up to your responsibilities behaviourally, publicly, and it's harder to do it privately.”
Saying that I was impressed that Buswell when I saw him at a Wildcats finals match, was in an ordinary seat, not a freebie corporate seat with the Wildcats as John Kobelke had previously had. But that's where the admiration ends
