Gowans boys have finally retired.

Nothing wrong with the lights at Elizabeth, other supporters just bitch about it because its Elizabeth. The light towers have more individual emitters than the models at Glenelg, Richmond and Noarlunga. Glenelg's would have to be the most underpowered, Richmond's are just enough to do the job as are Noarlunga's.

Norwood has been a staple of Friday night footy because of the proximity to the city, so they get a great deal more action. Everyone else usually has their games within the first third of the season. As for Sturt, they're in some serious financial s--t, so night footy more often may be the answer and Norwood is the best bet.

SANFL can't keep the salary cap they are paying out now long term. There isn't enough corporate revenue drivers.Sturts downfall may force clubs to have a look at it...

The seemingly endless quest for a Norwood Clubrooms continues, can't believe NP&SP council actually wants to build on Coopers Hill, that terrace is one of the best places to watch footy left in the city IMO. Norwood Oval would lose a lot of its charm if the 5,000 capacity(my guess was replaced with a club rooms & RSL facility.

NORWOOD Football Club is revisiting plans to replace Norwood Oval's Baulderstone Stand, three years after the plan was first mooted.

The move comes despite Norwood, Payneham & St Peters Council, which owns the oval, endorsing two other options.

Speaking to the Eastern Courier Messenger last week, NP&SP Mayor Robert Bria said the Redlegs presented preliminary plans for the Baulderstone Stand option at a meeting between the club and council in February.

"What they showed (the) council was very impressive," Mr Bria said.

The new clubrooms - to be shared by the club and local RSL branches - were first mooted in 2010.

The Redlegs wanted to demolish the Baulderstone Stand and replace it with $3 million three-storey clubrooms, which it hoped would be ready for the 2011 season.


rebuilding the baulderstone stand makes much more sense. The club is spot on here IMO.

Yes, in the NP&SP document they refer to the 3 structures as the Edwin T Smith Stand(the Southern), the Western Stand(the one running up the wing. The Baulderstone stand is the old 'VIP stand' that is now the players stand in between the other 2 stands.

They going to spend all of it on keeping the salary cap?

The 7:30 Stateline program mentioned only 3 clubs turned a profit last year and a few clubs have been making big losses.

Anyways, I hope the Salary Cap does stay at its current rate. Hopefully the comp stays strong for years to come

the biggest threat the the SANFL is the AFL clubs looking to destroy the fabric of the league by introducing Reserves sides. No AFL in the SANFL.

The SANFL as it stands is a vibrant tier II Aussie Rules competition. If the AFL worked with(rather than against) their interstate counterparts they would have much bigger impact with a 'unified message'.
Admitedly they'd have to overcome the SA/VIC decades of trust 'issues'

The SANFL as it stands is a vibrant tier II Aussie Rules competition. If the AFL worked with(rather than against) their interstate counterparts they would have much bigger impact with a 'unified message'.

The SANFL has ultimately conceded any competetive advantage it had over the years, from allowing a simple divide and conquer strategy to relegate the entire competition in 1990, to dilluting the Port Adelaide FC's powerbase through the formation of the PAMFC, throwing away the source of its strength (football park), and on the verge of losing control of the AFL licenses. They've been chipping away at themselves for 20 years.

Hey, I agree the SANFL's a great competition. Yes, the AFL does at times work against them. But there's no use being righteous and poor. Just accept that the AFL is a variable, and be thankful that it's at least consistent.

There are some good foundations being built by the clubs now. Norwood is obviously doing well out of their pokies on NE Rd to be splashing 1 million on facilities at Norwood Oval. I don't buy much in to the profits and the losses anymore. The clubs are still here, they're investing in revenue streams, lights etc. Ultimately football clubs with a strong social club are loss making entities. Cash goes in the social club and out the player's wallet.

The AFL membership model only works when you have members. 2-3000 members doesn't get you much these days unfortunately. Pokies it is!
