Is it more of a national interest than say the ABC?

In the case of Collingwood, now. Better still, be more socialist and charge Collingwood and other profitable Victorian clubs more to hire the MCG & Docklands to subsidise the strugglers.

So what's the deal with this story? If the AFL didn't get agreement with Essendon that Hird's suspension would be unpaid why are they kicking up a fuss about it? I mean, private seething is understandable given they screwed up the terms of the suspension but making it public seems stupid.

Eh, they didn't get the outcome they wanted first time so they're just trying to pressure a better one.

What I find amazing is the club rewards staff for doing nothing, pays $2 million in fines, and has a debt reduction drive running parallel to all of this - seemingly in some alternative universe that only Essendon fans live in.

Your membership $ at work.

Oh dear.

12 months paid annual leave, taken as a lump sum in advance, and not drawing down on your annual leave entitlements. That's effectively what this sanction is.

But it's okay - AFL is rool profeshnl.

These days? This is the mob done for systematic rorting of the salary cap and drat tampering over a period of years in the 90s. The club has shown form for a long time.

And the latest from the bogan game:

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-12-18/i-felt-scared

Charged with assault: tick.
Plead not guilty, found guilty: tick.
Scolded by judge for having hands in pockets while the verdict is read out: tick.

The good news for members, and their money, is West Coast will continue to employ him.
