In an amateur state league...
And that league just happened to be the premier league at the time?

Port Adelaide won 6 in a row, true, but in an inferior league. Collingwood won 4 in a row in a much tougher league. Centrals are playing in their 11th or 12th grand final in a row, but would you consider that something remarkable given that the league has basically become a breeding ground for AFL prospective players. The only club which treats it seriously these days is, well Centrals.

SANFL teams were regularly beating VFL teams at the time. Victorians were still up their own arses at this time which accounts for the later revisions showing how these amateur smokers wearing knickerbockers were elite athletes.

On occassion an SANFL club beat a VFL club but on the whole the VFL was a stronger league. I don't think there is any argument there.

And the VFL clubs were attracting the best SA & WA players. But the brief foray into the National Club Championship at the end of the season in the 70's showed the SA clubs could match it with the Vics. Loved the days of the interstate games........"kick a Vic"!

I stood next to (in the same post code as) Darren about 5 years ago in the line up to Norwood Oval. Going on the photo in that article, he's lost weight.

I think they will just reserve the entire hill and a pie cart/truck/factory for him for the AFL season.
