Domestic Cricket 2010/11

Post by Egan »

I am going to the WACA on Friday and Sunday...

Looking forward to a weekend of cricket, particularly with the weather we are having at the moment.

Hopefully the South African coach wins something for us.

Im just happy Chris Simpson stepped down as Captain of Queensland, captaining was about all he was good at, and now that he's not captain he's already been dropped from the Shield team. Decent game tonight it would seem between Queensland and Tassie in the Ryobi One Day Domestic competition.

Didn't catch the game tonight, who did? Will be interesting to see how this new split-innings format goes. For those that don't know, 20 overs for each side first, then another 25. Ryobi was named as the new naming rights sponsor just today. 5 year deal I think it is.

I don't know about split innings. Didn't catch the game last night. I think it will interrupt the momentum of teams that are on a roll. On the other hand that may produce a more even result.

I watched about 30 minutes of it until I got bored.

I watched a fair bit of the game, split innings is an improvement I think, need a few more games to get a better idea. Tactics will be interesting, Queensland sent Tassie in to bat, so that queensland knew the target score would be at 20 overs (bonus point for team leading after 20 overs).

2nd innings was good, queensland needed 160 off 25 overs to win, almost got there needing a 6 off the last ball.

New rules should make the games closer, which is something this comp will have over 20/20. Don't mind watching 20/20, but its so rare to see a close game, team batting first has huge advantage.

Not bad the split innings format. Victoria played very very well.

Shield games streaming from the site below

Watching SA v NSW. You can hear the sound of construction at Adelaide Oval.

NSW's Nic Maddison scores on debut. We've unearthed another one.

If there was no international cricket on, you could have a whole batting line up of guys who can open the batting, seriously; Jacques, Hughes, Katich, Haddin, Warner, Khawaja and now this Maddinson. All of them can open the batting for you guys. Insane.
Also Brisbane having its wettest spring, for I imagine forever, at least in recent memory, has allowed only 31 overs of play in 4 days of cricket.
Side note, you can login to CATV (Cricket Australia TV), and watch the games as well, but it seems to be the same streams, so not much difference and FoxSports doesn't require you to log in or sign up.

Who the hell is Scott Coyte and Mark Cameron?

Anyway all of the players trying to improve their chances of Australian selection really didn't help themselves.....

Both have been around for a few seasons, NSW really have a ridiculous depth in the fast bowlers department.

Foxsports was saying that Usman Khawaja batted well for his 60. Without watching I can't say, but I hope either he or Callum Ferguson get picked before Hussey/North. One change will do.

Hussey got 0 and 3. Great practice! His Test position is safe I think unless he fails against England. He could get a pair in his next Shield game and survive.

A good week in the Shield for my "power of good" teams (Tas, SA, NSW) who will all get points against the "axis of evil" teams (Vic, Qld, WA).
