Morningside knocked off Labrador in the AFLQ Grand Final on Sunday. 17.16 (118) to 14.12 (96), and estimated to be in front of 3200 according to the AFLQ website. However it probably has to go down as a massive choke, as Labrador who went straight into the Grand Final from the Qualifying Final (Top 5 system for those playing at home), were leading by 20 points at the 4th minute of the last quarter and well got beaten by 22.... Pity because its not like Morningside need anything else to crow about. Then again Labrador have pretty much bought their team, with Peter Everitt, Trent Knobel, Tim Notting and Aaron Shattock all ex AFL players playing for them.
Southport won the reserves and have some very good youngsters coming through, the BOG was a 17 year old called Dalton Tucker.
Yeah they get paid, there is a salary cap of like $150,000 or something like that. Most clubs have some sort of licensed club attached, but none of them really compare with what Southport's got, some of them are better then others, Aspley only really got promoted to the State League thanks to having a decent sized club attached.

I've thought about this - and I reckon it wouldn't have been an entirely bad thing if the Titans got up. This is not like the 2nd side in the same league where people have to pick one and the other becomes the enemy. It's a fairly unique situation in Australian sport where both clubs are going to have pretty decent support in the whole city, and given the failures of the past one of the clubs having some success might actually rub off on the other.
And from all reports, both clubs have a reasonable relationship anyway - if they were smart, you'd think they'd be marketing a joint membership or something like that while campaigning their respective leagues not to schedule their home games at the same time. Preferably in alternate weeks.

In a non-capital city environment where opportunities are limited that makes a lot of sense. Even sports that are compete in different seasons yet vie for the same corporate dollar may do well to cooperate. In Newcastle, the Jets nearly hit the wall and the Knights' control over EAS is a massive issue.
