Interesting that both the Main Stand and the Kemlyn Rd Stand (Centenary Stand) were old designs that were expanded upward and had a new roof added. I'd previously thought they'd demolished the older smaller stands and started over, like they did with the Kop.

One of the main gripes I have with stadium redevelopments in this country is you simply don't need to demolish most of the old structures. If an old stand has the necessary gradient and distance from the pitch then that's all that's necessary - it can be extended sideways, or built over. It's far from the exception, but quite the norm for English football grounds to have a lower seating bowl that's over 50 years old - even if the wider/taller structure is far younger. The original wasn't demolished because it damned well wasn't necessary.

How far superior does Gen Y think it is at making concrete? Half of what we know about the stuff was learned 2000 years ago.

Anfield's Main Stand expansion has now been approved and Anfield Rd Stand expansion has been given conditional approval.

No loss of capacity during construction? Hah. No loss of *covered* capacity during construction.

They're building half the stand behind the main stand, then installing the roof - OVER the current roof. Then building the second half of the new stand - between the main stand and recently completed structure, underneath the new roof. Then they are removing the old roof from under the new roof.

The new bar has been set.

I thought demolishing half a stadium and rebuilding and shutting people out for 3 years was light weight. This is a whole new level.

That's taking the piss. How awesome is that?
