Zaha Hadid's gets two images. Oooh. Having just seen Argo I immediately thought of the Azadi Tower.

Re: Japan stadium finalists
The one with the park built over the top of the roof is very intriguing, though I wonder how tall the trees could really get with the amount of soil they'd be able to sit on the roof. It couldn't be very deep before the weight becomes prohibitive.

Re: Japan stadium finalists
Zaha's is a heavy version of Calitravas Athens Olympic stadium and the options covered in parkland won't do too well in a serious earthquake....Tokyo takes 2.5 months to decide on a new stadium....Perth....still thinking about it

Re: Japan stadium finalists
Why would the ones with green roofs be any more at risk than any of the others? IT would depend (as always) on how well it was built structurally.the crow wrote:Zaha's is a heavy version of Calitravas Athens Olympic stadium and the options covered in parkland won't do too well in a serious earthquake....Tokyo takes 2.5 months to decide on a new stadium....Perth....still thinking about it
Perth - the city where decisions go to die...

presumably if it's got a hill with soil, grass, trees, etc, it's basically a big solid concrete span. lightweight steel cantilevered structures can flex around and survive a fair bit of treatment, but I could see massive chunks of that coming down in a Fukushima scale quake.

Re: Japan stadium finalists
The French design is awe inspiring. A roof holding that much weight upon it would be a beast.
