World Cup 2010 Africa

im interested now that the world cup 2006 is only 2 days away has any body seen any images or heard anything for that matter for proposals for 2010 in South Africa....they better get busy as i think that not many of the existing stadiums in use for super 14 are realy FIFA comliant?...

following that i understand that FIFA want Australia to make a bid for 2014 or 2018...lets face it we've got the best facilities in the world it weill be between us and brasil i suggest....

brazil already has 2014 in the bag i'm afraid...

2018 on the other hand...i heard FIFA want england to apply but then again if FIFA are going to stick to the rotating continents rule then it should go to asia which australia would come under..

Looking forward to South Africe in 2010. I have already started saving to head across, Australia just need to do the right thing and qualify.

In terms of stadia, I have seen a page which lists all the stadia.

Click here for a link to the Sky Scraper City Forums where they are discussing the stadia for 2010.

I think the main stadium will have a capacity close to 100,000 stadiums!

As for Australia hosting a tournament, Brazil has 2014 in the bag pretty much. England is almost guaranteed 2018, so I would say 2022 would be the earliest we will get one. I suspect China would be our major competitor from Asia.

Lets first try and host the Asian Cup. I suspect 2011 or 2015 for that!

I have managed to find photos of the stadiums to be used in the 2010 World Cup.

I know they have trimmed back the number of stadiums they are using, so I am not sure which ones will actually be used. But it will give you an idea at least of the stadiums and their locations and size.

There are some fantastic looking stadiums and I cannot wait to watch the Socceroos in action in a number of those stadiums!

the rotation system sounded good on paper..but in practice it's unworkable,this was hightlighted for the 2014 cup..only 2 economies could sustain such a large event,brazil and columbia and seeing as columbia has the highest kidknapping rate in the world (100,000 relatively wealthy european fans

) thats a non starter...so brazil was "given" it..

there was international competition for stadiums in both durban and cape town to develop stadiums that could be used for commonwealth games and for bidding for the olympic games (durban only as it has good weather!)

The proposed site for the durban arena is the existing soccer field behind ABSA stadium you can see it in the pic attached in Dasher 39's post above. the one rotate 45 degrees (in the wrong direction for any open field sporting comp)

the winner should be announced shortly in SA...

the rotation system must be maintained....there is an underlying ecconomic reason for this, as developing or re developing massive stadiums for olympic / football / union / cricket worldcups, commonwealth / asian university games, have a marked effect in propping up the worlds ecconomy.

also we dont get stuck viewing international sport at crap time slots....there is more people in the asian region than any other developing international sporting market... their shooting them selves in the foot if the dont think about it.

Then surely that means we've pretty much got no chance until the Asian confederation's next tournament post 2022 (what 2042?). I don't want to be a killjoy but seriously, after Beijing breaks the Chinese taboo by hosting the Olympics, what sane organisation is going to overlook a billion person market in favour of Oz?
