If the bench seats were painted silver (and brown in the first few rows), you'd look twice before deciding whether it was Waverly or Football Park.

The redevelopment with the glass enclosure looks impossibly sh*t. What's the point of preserving something that isn't being preserved?

Hey, there were a fair few Richmond games at the 'g in the early to mid '90's where the entire western stand was closed; 2 that spring to mind are richmond v brisbane (bears) 1993 r.2 (13,000 there, makes the one day cricket crowds look alright) and for some reason round 7, 1995, richmond v adelaide, after richmond had won 6 on the trot. 37,000 on a very wet night, mostly in the southern stand!

I reckon that Richmond/Adelaide game would've been the one where Tony Modra paddled the ball to the boundary for 25 metres then slammed it over his shoulder for lazy goal of the year. Or was it the match against Collingwood? Both Friday nights at the G. Screw my leaky memory.

f**k the AFL ruled back when it was a big dick competition between Gary Ablett and Tony Modra.

And then socialism took over.

Certainly was the Modra goal, still got it on video somewhere.

Was just watching some 90's Richmond matches (withdrawl) on vid, and 90's footy was pretty darn good!

Yep, moved Fitzroy north because they were not sustainable in Melbourne. Pity that administration didn't last too much longer...

Great pics! Thanks for posting them Justin. Great memories of attending the stadium back in the day, including the final H&A game when 72,000 fans were on hand. Glad it's been retained the way it has been.

Waverley Park (VFL Park) turns 50 today!

Hawthorn have put their new training complex (the Kennedy Centre in Dingley) on hold due to COVID-19, so their stay at their former home ground will be extended - which I think is a good thing.

Does anyone have any photos they can share of whats up the top behind the seats of the Kenneth Luke stand? What is up there, any old cafeterias or anything else interesting?
