BUGGER! I saw the topic and though "Great! Dan has a photo for me." But the photo master himself is asking me for a picture. Siorry Dan.

Funny you bring this up because I was talking about it on the www.rleague.com forums. The ground was owned by the Seagulls liscenced club up there on the Gold Coast. Its capacity was 14,000. Neat little ground with 1 tier seating all the way round. Every seat was a good seat right on top of the action.

The mail from that site was that Seagulls Stadium was demolished sometime in the late 1990s. The Seagulls Club ran into financial difficulties and mde it a housing estate in some sort of joint venture. (The Seagulls Club is now out of financial trouble and has been bought by the North Sydney Leagues Club).

Wish I had a photo Dan but I don't. WQould be a marvellous addition to the old Stadiums section of this site. But I'll try and find one.

Yeah there seems to be no information out there about Seagulls Stadium. (I am aware of it). I think I asked about it on the old forum. I think it was demoloshed around 1999-2000. And I'm confident the leagues club still exists on the same site.

Is it true someone involved with the Wollongong Wolves owns a temporary grandstand which was used at Seagulls Stadium? I've heard that a few times...

NFI Cam. Didn't know there was temp seating at Seagulls. But if you heard that mail often, it may be true.

I wish I had a picture. I know a bloke that publishes a Rugby League monthly newspaper http://www.rugbyleaguereview.com I'll see if he has any archived photos.

For the record, the highest attendance ever posted at Seagulls Stadium is 13,423 for Gold Coast vs Brisbane on 8 May 1988 http://stats.rleague.com/rl/crowds/seagulls_vn.html

A Wally Lewis Charity match had more people in attendance than that game.

BTW - Seagulls Club is still there.

No pics, but here's a YouTube clip of a match there in which you can see some of it.

Seagulls Stadium was purchased by the Wollongong Wolves way back in the early 2000's after winning the old NSL.
They were to compete in the World Club Championship but it never went ahead and the promised several million dollar pay day for the Wolves never came. This helped sink the club.

The main grandstand was moved along with light towers to Figtree in Wollongong but was never finished due to the financial plight of the Wolves. It remained in limbo for several years and looked like something straight out of the Middle East. Totally in ruins and unused.

The Collegians Rugby League Club purchased the ground and finished the job. Right now it must be one of the best Country Rugby league grounds going around.

Was the grandstand anything to do with the old grandstand from Brandon Park? Top looks similar.

Nice one. Found another couple of photos of Seagulls Stadium:

The stadium was dismantled and former-NSL club Wollongong Wolves purchased the grandstand, electronic scoreboard and lights and planned to build a new stadium after they were booted from Brandon Park. That project started, but the club ran into financial difficulties and it was then abandoned. Collegians Rugby League Club purchased the site, and finished the stadium, which today looks like this:

I'd be interested to know which part of the grandstand, if any, is from the old Seagulls Stadium as it looks quite different. Read more about the venue here: https://www.austadiums.com/stadiums/stadiums.php?id=391

There's a few other threads on this forum about Seagulls Stadium if you run a search.

I believe that Collegians grandstand is actually the old Brandon Park grandstand.

It's more obvious side-on but I can't find the pic I saw on Twitter a few days back.

Yes comparing those photos, it's obvious the Collegians grandstand is the grandstand formerly located at Brandon Park. More pics of the old Wollongong ground here: https://www.austadiums.com/stadiums/stadiums.php?id=16
There is some conflicting info on the internet. It appears the Wollongong Wolves did still purchase the assets from Seagulls Stadium, but maybe nothing from that grandstand was ever re-used?
