Funnily enough, over here their numbers are declining. Or at least losing their influence.
I guessthat's one of the positives to a mining boom..lots of folks with money, knowing the govt has coin and looking to see services/infrastructure improved. Although we did get our new stadium before Perth;)

Perth has outpaced the other cities for growth recently. From 1.4 to 1.85 million in the last 15 years. When you get that sort of migration the established order tends to get diluted. From my experience having gone from Adelaide to Canberra, I couldn't give a rat's arse who thinks they're up the chain here (or what they think my house should look like).

"Do you have any idea who I am?!"
"Nope!"

There's something going on there. Someone's digging holes and slamming some stuff into the ground.

You've never been to Adelaide during Mad March have you?

Bit of an older article, but the city of West Torrens wants the scoreboard relocated to Thebarton Oval when the AO's conversion to a piece of concrete is complete.

I like this idea. It's a good fit for the character of the ground. However Thebarton will need more work to make the step up as a viable mid tier venue - seats and basic facilities. Also the light towers, while nice to have, well... you have to be prety ballsy to stand near them.

On a simple supply demand basis you'd think so, but governments take in to account qualitative factors such as "now the northern end looks stupid."

The handover date has been brought forward from the March 24 to March 19 at an additional cost to the SMA of around $600k. It means some minor works won't be finished before the showdown.
The earlier handover means:

THE northern car park will not be completed before the Showdown.

LANDSCAPING outside of the ground will be delayed, and

BECAUSE of a reallocation of funds, the weatherproofing of the western stands will not begin until April.

Really? I wonder what's the reason for such a significant delay? First they claimed that it was a bit windy in October/November (despite that this is quite normal). Perhaps the rain over the past couple of weeks came as a surprise too?

I guess that's why the redevelopment site hasn't been updated since November and the webcam that used to be focused on the stand has been frozen on Jan 10.

So, open for business.

Best photo I have found on Twitter:

Looks good with 50k+ in the ground covering the teal seats.

Talking to relos, there has been a great deal of excitement in Adelaide about this redevelopment for a long time. General buzz around the place, people taking tours etc, a bit of hyperbole about Adelaide in general finding its feet. Good to see it makes them happy(er).

Now with all the shameless self promotion of the state government, AFL, AFL clubs and the SMA out of the way it's up to the stadium to deliver the goods. At this stage we can say: Port Adelaide average home attendance - 50397.
