single tier behind the goals is sexy:) extend the roof?
They seriously need to knock the whole place down & start again. It is not acceptable as a modern multi-purpose stadium any more. The seating behind the tryline is horrendous viewing. It is too flat (a huge beef of mine) & there is only one video screen which you can't see from the non-alcohol end.

Why not replace the half-baked areas behind the goals/tryline with safe terracing like this from the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg?

Parramatta Stadium has some of the worst sightlines in the country for a rectangular stadium. The facilities have not changed since the 1980s, except for the hills being wrecked.

I disagree. Despite it's age, it's one of the best viewing small rectangular stadiums in the country.
What it's age is showing though, is the demands of the modern fan and society's political correctness.
Catering provisions are awful, and not accepted in this day and age of fine food and speed of service. Beer is still poured from cans into cups for some brands, or tap poured per request. Slow = long queues. Toilet facilities are woefully inadequate. Game day entrance access is pathetic, particularly on the Eastern side. The bastardisation of the hills I agree with, due largely to the greediness of the Parra Stadium Trust and the erection of the advertising hoardings behind the newly built end concourses as a money grabbing exercise.
All these issues appear to be now being addressed with this next stage of redevelopment.
My only concern is that this stage had been planned without due consideration to further development and capacity increase. Capacity increase is what the stadium needs more than anything at the moment to future proof it. Of course, with extra bums on seats comes the demands of better facilities all round are required.

St J.

PS. It's not a multi purpose stadium. It caters to sports who play on rectangular fields.

I'm confused about how Parra Stadium isn't meeting Political Correctness standards

Probably because people are getting too fat for the seats.

Buy 2 tickets IMO, airlines do it.

I prefer the term multi useless stadium. Parra is one you would put in this category because it has rugby union sized in goal areas so the fat people have enough room to stop.

It can also host the AFL World Cup Against Ireland.

The word going around is that the upgrade project has been cut back from what was submitted and will now only include 1,500 extra seats at the northern end. This doesn't surprise me as the $29m they have for the project is $5m less than the original estimate I saw for Stage 1 of the Master Plan and that didn't include the work on the training pitch that the Eels insisted on. I await confirmation of the situation with bated breath. The DA is still with Council who asked for more information a week ago and stopped the clock again.

So, $29m for 1,500 extra seats?

Suddenly makes the SCG redevelopment appear to be great value. At least they got a new gourmet hotdog stand included.

The latest is that its 2,400 extra seats in the northern terrace. The exciting development is that the north terrace will be fitted out with proper standing seats. I've asked the source whether this will include the installation of an intermediate standing step in each row but haven't got a response yet.

Evidently there will be more news on this project tomorrow.

I have a feeling that won't build two steps per row. Or at least if they do, they won't completely fill each row with RBB. That new level would be the most densely populated part of the stadium and the cops will hate having to search for flares and coin-chuckers in such a dense area.

Perfect weather last weekend for the WSW. Biggest home crowd in four matches of 12,124, or 59% of capacity. Yep, really need those extra few thousand seats.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING for LARGE HAILSTONES, HEAVY RAINFALL and DAMAGING WIND
For people in the Metropolitan,
Illawarra and parts of the Central Tablelands Forecast Districts.

Issued at 12:16 pm Sunday, 23 March 2014.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce large hailstones, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and damaging winds in the warning area over the next
several hours. Locations which may be affected include Penrith, Parramatta, Wollongong, Nowra, Bowral, Campbelltown, Orange, Bathurst and Katoomba.
"Perfect weather last weekend for WSW". Yeah, right.

"Biggest home crowd in four matches of 12,124, or 59% of capacity." Not surprising given the weather forecasts all weekend.

2 March v Newcastle - 15mm of rain fell on the day of the game.

16 March v Adelaide - 17.2mm of rain fell immediately before kick off causing the game to be delayed.

You do realise that 65% of seats are not under cover at Pirtek and that in February and March in Sydney when they forecast storms they are talking about rainfall events that often deliver 25mm+ an hour.

Oh, and the 4th "low crowd"? The midweek ACL game. Come on now. 9.3k midweek is well above par.

The last non midweek, non rain affected game at Pirtek was a sell out with 16,401 in attendance.

Membership: good for filling your cashflow statement, f***ing useless for filling a stadium.
