Five kilometres from the city, Royal Randwick is one of the more popular racecourses in Sydney. With a history dating back to 1833, the course has a reputation for being a good all-weather track, and holds major Australian races during the Autumn and Spring Racing Carnivals. Granted the right to be known as Royal Randwick by Queen Elizabeth in 1992, the course is a wide, sweeping surface of spirit and thundering history attended by charming, /‘olde worlde/’ structures and polished, modern stands like the recently completed Paddock Stand which offers excellent dining and bars along with marvellous viewing facilities.
