The Queensland Tennis Centre (Pat Rafter Arena) was completed in December 2008 and hosted its first event, the Brisbane International, on the fourth day of January 2009. Located on the banks of the iconic Brisbane River in Tennyson, the new centre provides Brisbane with an international-standard tennis facility for the first time since the closure of the Milton Tennis Centre in 1999.
The Centre includes a main arena, which has been officially named the Pat Rafter Arena, complete with a roof and permanent seating for 5,500. Also located at the complex is 22 match and training courts.
The venue hosts the newly created Brisbane International – a lead-up event to the Australian Open which replaced the Australian Men’s Hardcourt Championships (Adelaide) and the Australian Women’s Hardcourt Championships (Gold Coast) as of January 2009.
