Redevelopment officially commenced on Sunday 29th September 2002 and was
completed in early 2006.
Details of redevelopment
Redevelopment of the Melbourne
Cricket Ground will include a new grandstand which will replace the
existing Ponsford Stand, Olympic Stand, and Members Pavilion. The
redevelopment will be completed in time for the 2006 Melbourne
Commonwealth Games and will cost $425 million. It will increase the capacity of the stadium to over
100,000, and will keep the MCG as Australia's number one sports and
entertainment stadium.
