The Brunswick Street Oval was the original home to the then Fitzroy Football Club and remained their base until 1966 when they moved to Princes Park (now Optus Oval). The Oval hosted 612 VFL home and away games, and 4 finals.
The ground consists of a main grandstand which was constructed in 1888 and grass banks.
