Wyndham Stadium unveiled for Western Melbourne A-League bid
A new 15,000-seat stadium in Tarneit has been unveiled as the home venue of A-League expansion bid Western Melbourne.
The new multi-million dollar venue would feature training pitches, sports medicine facilities, a gymnasium, recovery facilities, sporting spaces for the community to enjoy, with residential and commercial development also planned for the surrounding area.
Concept plans for the new stadium show it’s similar in appearance to the new Western Sydney Stadium currently under construction on the site of the old Parramatta Stadium, although half the size.
Wyndham City is about 25km west of Melbourne’s central business district, a big enough distance to set it apart from the two current A-League clubs, premiers Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City.
Wyndham City have provided in-principle support for WMG in its bid for one of the licenses, however the council will not provide any funding for the stadium itself. Funding for the new A-League team and stadium will come from many local investors.
The site in Sayers Rd is already earmarked for a new train station that will provide direct public transport and the precinct will require better roads which is a priority for the council.

The bid team is made up of Bisetto (a partner in KPMG), former Socceroo Steve Horvat, prominent agent and promoter Lou Sticca (Tribal Sports Group), Tania Orr (KPMG director, infrastructure and projects) and former Socceroo Andrew Zinni (construction director at ProBuild).
FFA has received 15 applications from bidders from all over the country and will reveal who has made the shortlist some time this month before making a final decision prior to the start of the 2018-19 season in October.
