Rising costs, could be the start of a new plan for Rushton Park

The Rushton Park Redevelopment could be part of a broader masterplan of the area surrounding the stadium, as Mandurah City Council look for options to fund a redevelopment that has doubled in price. Despite the stadium needing to be built by June 30th 2008, the Mandurah City Council is looking at preparing a Master Plan for the area if additional funding for the redevelopment can not be found.

A source from within the City of Mandurah, said that the venue's redevelopment had doubled in costs since the original proposal was put together and thus were looking at other options to meet the shortfall, including looking at a broad master plan concept for the area surrounding Rushton Park.

"Obviously the initial quote of 2.2 million dollars two years ago has come back at double that price...If we can't find additional funding, we will look at a master plan scenario for the whole area. This would look just not at football facilities, but the whole area in general".

While the City of Mandurah confirmed that Peel Thunder's initial timeframe it made public for the start of the Rushton Park redevelopment was optimistic.

"When Peel Thunder rolled out the timeframe (for the start of the Rushton Park redevelopment) they where looking at a best case scenario"

However Cadell Buss the CEO of Peel Thunder refused to comment on whether they were too hasty to begin the Rushton Park redevelopment and said it was not for public knowledge.
