Brisbane look like the second half of the season is going to be a lot better than their first. Poor percentage at the moment, but might challenge?

Yes, they haven't used a final 6 since 1993.

From the AFL's fixtures explained page (http://www.afl.com.au/fixture%20explain ... fault.aspx)
Quote:
As a starting point, the AFL determines that as the clubs with the heaviest travel load in the competition, the West Coast Eagles and Fremantle will always alternate home and away matches so that they do not travel in consecutive weeks at any stage. In doing this, all other clubs will have to travel at least once to Western Australia, to play either the West Coast Eagles or Fremantle. No other team in the competition travels interstate more than two weeks in a row and where possible, any successive travels are accommodated with a trip to the closest capital city (for instance, Adelaide Crows to Melbourne or Sydney Swans to Brisbane).

It may sound nice and fair but what I don't get is how Collingwood can play Fremantle and West Coast in succession and still not have to travel to Perth? Sure it meets the above rule but makes a mockery of it at the same time.

One of the problems of having a truly national competition.
Collingwood at Subiaco doesn't increase the crowd.
Maybe when we get the new stadium.

You know that they're playing in Perth in round 22?

Don't worry about Collingwood. More interesting is next week's Sydney v West Coast game

They declare themselves hypocrits by putting the Eagles and Dockers in Tasmania nearly every season anyways...If they were that worried about the Eagles and Dockers travel schedule they would never make the WA teams play in Tasmania...

What difference does it make? Tassie is closer than Sydney and only marginally further than Melbourne.

There's no direct Perth-Hobart or Perth-Launceston flights, so there is the hassle of transfers etc to start with

Virgin always puts one on both ways when either club plays there. As did Qantas when they were the AFL airline from about 6 or 7 years ago.

Next time one of the clubs plays down there, go to Virgin's website and you'll be able to buy seats on it.

My first thought was no way in hell, but on second thought Tony Modra's retired now so it couldn't be that bad.

Disgraced former AFL player manager Ricky Nixon has been charged by police following an alleged assault this morning.

Nixon, 49, was today charged with five offences - intentionally causing serious injury, false imprisonment, assault with a weapon, escaping lawful custody and resisting arrest.

He was bailed to appear before Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday.

Nixon was arrested at 3am in Bay Street, Port Melbourne and was admitted to The Alfred hospital with minor injuries.

A hospital spokeswoman said he was discharged early this morning.

Nixon was arrested in February after an altercation with his 27-year-old fiancee, Tegan Gould. He was later fined and issued a penalty notice for public drunkeness.

Witnesses at the time are believed to have seen him naked and throwing clothes from his apartment.

Nixon, a former AFL player who later became a high-profile manager, was last year suspended by the AFL Players’ Association for two years after an ‘‘inappropriate personal relationship’’ with a then teenage girl.

Nixon and Ms Gould announced their engagement earlier this year.

Nixon was also questioned by police last September following an alleged assault with a guest at his home.
