You have got to question their capacity to draw corporate crowds...big boxes don't sell...they are better off with open corporate seating for your smaller bobs plumbing type of patrons..where they want to show up with a few fiends and get some coldies via table service......not hire out a 16 person box with lobster and champagne.

Not even close. The Swans won 3 consecutive spoons from 92 to 94, but in their worst season (1993) they had a final percentage of 63.3%. That's miles ahead of GWS. They were also relatively competitive after the first third of the season, getting within a few goals of victory a number of times, including a loss by a point to grand finalists Carlton at Princes Park.

Some people don't appreciate just how bad GWS are.

Sydney University had a team in the NSW rugby league from 1920 - 1937

In total they won 44 from 226 games and only won 2 games after 1933.

Wasn't expecting that.

I knew Port were sh*t, but I didn't think they were that sh*t.

Lucky thing work commitments kept me from taking the missus out there - poor girl watched it on the couch looking miserable...

Never thought I'd find myself saying this.

But what Port Adelaide needs right now is some bogans.

At the moment they're just such a wholesome bunch of no hopers. Take Justin Westhoff for example. He has a beard, but he's not a man's man. I'd almost go as far to say it's a woman's beard. Compare him to the great bogans they had running around in their premiership year such as Byron Pickett. That was a bogan you could take to the bank - and then rob the bank. Even when they last sucked they had a bogan nucleus in its development stage - Brogan, kingsley, lade, carr - all bogans.

I mean, they lost to GWS. Why? Mark Williams, assistant coach, bogan. And who do they go up against him with? Matthew Primus. Great player, but when he wears the club polo he looks like a year 10 science teacher. What more science does a bogan need after chlorine and break fluid?

A bit of bloody mongrel would be good. Some toothless bastard sons of bastard sons who will scare the likes of GWS's teenagers and belt the sh*t out of them given the chance.

Sydney are playing some good football but their crowds are down 20%. GWS are a bunch of young triers but their crowds are half of what the AFL reportedly was hoping for.

Is the standard of play at GWS games having a negative impact on the image of the AFL in Sydney resulting in lower than expected attendances all round? Is the work on the SCG reducing the Swans attendances even though there are 9k empty seats on average for each game? Is the GWS crowd mainly a split off of support from the Swans? Just trying to understand how the expansion into a new football market is going and what factors are driving the fan response.

You're not wrong. I can imagine that if the game was played as it was 30 years ago that any team finding itself falling behind to GC or GWS could just start a fight and melee the kids into respectful submission.
